Software has become increasingly critical to development and sustainment of new military platforms. Arguably as valuable is the role predictive technology and machine learning can have to the maintenance of legacy systems and the life extension of air, naval, and land platforms until a replacement platform goes into service. 

As budget challenges and procurement delays often force services to keep platforms in operation far longer, the ability to track performance of assets and respond to issues with appropriate upgrades, parts replacement or repair is essential for prevention of failures and  to optimize operations for the war fighter.
